About
Daniel J. Gardner is a Sales and Client Relations Leader with deep expertise in population health, behavioral health integration, and clinical management strategies that improve outcomes across large, diverse patient populations. Over the course of his career, Daniel has helped organizations navigate the evolving landscape of care delivery, bringing together data, clinical insight, and strategic partnership to strengthen how populations access, engage with, and benefit from coordinated health solutions.
Daniel spent 14 years at Optum in Vice President and Sales Executive roles, where he partnered with health systems, clinicians, and complex multi-site organizations to design and implement population-level strategies spanning behavioral health, wellness, care coordination, and clinical management. His work centered on aligning clinical models with real-world patient needs: improving access, reducing fragmentation, and supporting healthier outcomes for individuals and families across varied geographies and risk profiles.
Throughout his tenure, Daniel was recognized for his collaborative approach and ability to build trusted, long-standing partnerships. His achievements include multiple Altus Awards for Excellence in Client Management (2014 to 2017), selection as the first Optum representative to the UnitedHealthcare Leadership Council (2015 to 2016), and participation in the United Leadership Academy in 2009. These honors reflect his reputation for strategic thinking, operational clarity, and a consistent focus on measurable clinical impact.
Before Optum, Daniel supported national population health initiatives through roles at UnitedHealthcare National Accounts and Definity Health. There, he contributed to consumer-directed health strategies, implementation planning, and clinical-aligned benefit design, experience that shaped his understanding of how plan structure, care models, and patient engagement intersect to influence population outcomes.
Across every role, Daniel has remained committed to advancing population health strategies that strengthen care quality, improve clinical performance, and support healthier communities. His work continues to focus on bridging the gap between clinical insight and operational execution, ensuring organizations have the strategies, partnerships, and data needed to deliver meaningful, sustainable health improvement at scale.
